Bollywood History

The Hindi film industry ‘Bollywood’ started its journey way back in 1913. It was inaugurated by the most renowned name in the Hindi film industry Mr. Dada Sahib Phalke. The first Hindi film released was Raja Harish Chandra in 1913 by Mr. Dada Sahib Phalke; it was a silent film without sound.

The first Hindi film with sound was released in 1931; the film was produced by Mr. Ardeshir Irani and the name of the film was “Alam Ara:” the film was a huge hit at that time, the love and support shown by mass audiences prompted film makers to produce more and more films with sound. Bollywood confronted turbulent times during the war, and India’s independence movements, though the films were still produced by the film makers and people were still interested in watching them.

The first colored Hindi movie was produced in late 1950s, although the majority of Bollywood movies were still black and white till mid 1960. One of the most successful directors and producers of this era was Mr. Prithviraj Kapoor; he launched his very own banner called R.K Kanners; all R.K banner movies were great hits. The legacy of Mr. Prithviraj Kapoor is still kept alive by his grandchildren.
